This Week in Boarding

28 August 2015

Boarding girls are getting out their 60's gear for the rock and roll line dancing in the Assembly Hall for boarders on Friday night. Brown House boarders will attend, and this is optional for girls in both Simmons and Dowson. Glennie’s own linedancing queen, Mrs Cass Daniels, will run the session. The girls should be exhausted and sleep well tonight!

Girls in Simmons and Dowson girls will take a supervised bus trip to watch the main game of the Grammar-Downlands matches on Saturday. Mrs Gill Reynoldson will escort a group of girls to the Choral Concert at St Luke's Church on Saturday evening.

Mrs Gayle Ash will be making sock animals in Brown House on Saturday afternoon and Year 9 girls will have a picnic in the Japanese gardens on Sunday.

During the past week we celebrated the August birthdays at our monthly Birthday Tuesday. The birthday girls for the month received cards and shared two lovely, decorated cakes.

A feature of the coming week will be an etiquette dinner in Lawrance Hall on Monday evening. The boarders will be seated at family tables headed by a senior girl. There will be demonstrations of how, and how not, to handle cutlery, how to behave at a formal meal and how to consume soup in a dignified fashion. Simple things like the breaking of a bread roll rather than cutting are included and all girls will receive a small etiquette manual.

The evening is being hosted by the Glennie Boarding Committee. Good manners continue to be important life skills, and we hope that the attendance at any future formal dinner will not be a daunting experience. All girls are expected to wear Chapel dress.

With the exam period coming, our tutors in the boarding houses have been kept busy as the girls revise the work they have learned and work through problem areas.
