Snacks @ The G Official Opening

Sunday, 28 February saw the final unveiling of ‘Snacks @ the G’. This is the fully funded kitchen project in the Clive Berghofer Glennie Sports Centre, brought to you by The Glennie Sports Supporters (GSS).

This $30,000 project has been a culmination of many years of fundraising, and is in addition to their recent $25,000 sponsorship of the GSS Circuit Room.

Guests at the opening included many past and present Glennie Sports Supporter committee members, current and past P&F Presidents, Head of Sport Mrs Lou Holley and Sports Captains for 2021, Hannah Meyer and Abbey Holley. It was wonderful that these past committee members made the effort to attend.

It was a great honour to have Mrs Rebecca Keating attend this event, as the School’s very first President of Glennie Sports Supporters in 2011. In attendance also was Rebecca’s Vice President, Mr Alan Fitzgerald. Together with Richard Dowsett and Gary Adrian, they founded this incredible and invaluable sub-committee of the Parents and Friends’ Association.

Current President, Mr Jason Meyer, invited past President Shaz Willmington along to share a heartfelt address with all guests. This address showcased the contributions of GSS to benefit all Glennie girls over the past 10 years and highlighted the shared benefits of giving back to communities and being role models for our girls. She reminded us all that the lifelong friendships, connections and new skills made along the way, are just the icing on the cake!

Mrs Willmington and Mr Meyer also outlined the process involved to complete this project. Tribute was shown to caterer Mrs Rebecca Grice, who volunteered many hours to design and assist with the kitchen from start to finish. A plaque has been placed on the wall to honour her contribution. Appreciation was also afforded to Glennie Workshop Manager, Mr Russell Pugh for his invaluable assistance with tradesman, flooring and Council approval inspections. We must not forget past Glennie Business Manager, Mr Jason Hockaday, for his initial insight and forethought into the installation of this space, and the opportunity he gave GSS to be a part of it.

Mrs Keating unveiled a newly installed Honour Board, honouring past GSS Committee members for their many hours and days of dedication towards fundraising. This was a wonderful surprise for all who attended.

The afternoon concluded with Mr Meyer giving a tour of the new facility and Mrs Holley hosting a tour of the recently completed Clive Berghofer Sports Centre, which many guests have not had the chance to yet see.

Snacks @ the G would not have been possible without all the Glennie girls, Glennie staff and families who have not only volunteered, but also supported  our fundraising events over the past 10 years. You may have helped us advertise our events on School Notices, supported us by being a customer, or set up tents with us. Special thanks go out to all of you.

A fantastic opportunity exists now for our own community to utilise this space, with Glennie Sports Supporters and the School securing future income opportunities as a result. So please take a moment to notice this new facility when next in the vicinity and pause to reflect on the contributions by many who made it all possible. Go Glennie.

GSS would like to offer a special thank you to the following girls for assisting them with cleaning 'Snacks @ the G' kitchen upon completion - Kristy Douglas, Nell Hanly, Ellie Sands and Holly Willmington.
