Over the weekend the Under 15 Rugby team travelled to Brisbane to compete in the QLD All Schools competition.
The girls had a tough pool and came up against some very skilled teams. The girls played well and managed to finish 6th in the overall placings at the end of day one.
This took us to the cup quarter finals where we came up against Mount Alvernia. The girls had a good game and showed their strengths in their passing and tackling. After a win the girls progressed through to the semi finals where they were set to play Redcliffe. We had already played this team in our pool matches, meaning we had a good idea of our gameplay.
The girls had a great start, seeing Zoe Waters score two half-field tries down the sideline. The girls used their speed well throughout this game, which came off the back of our forwards making many strong runs up the middle of the field. Due to this hard work, we saw both Zoe Waters and Amber Hurley go in for two more tries, with some impressive conversions from Katelyn Collie. A win in this game put us through to the big grand final against Keebra.
The girls had never made a grand final before at this competition, so this achievement was something to truly be proud of. Unfortunately, the girls went down in this game against an extremely smart and skilful Keebra team.
I would like to thank the girls who participated in this competition, they showed true grit and determination to progress from 6th place to 2nd and I could not be prouder. I would like to thank Craig Coetzee for coaching the girls and preparing them for such a strong competition.
I look forward to seeing many more girls interested in playing in this competition next year.
