Fillies and Juniors Football Season Wraps Up

After two long terms of playing against some of the best schools in Toowoomba, Glennie teams were very proud of their achievements.

The junior team was successful in reaching the semi-finals after finishing a very credible third on the ladder in the junior competition. They were eventually knocked out by Highlands Christian College, but went down fighting.

I would like to commend the girls on their dedication and hard work for the season and for the huge improvement seen by all. Thank you must also go to Coach Luke Whittingham, who worked extremely hard with the girls this year.

The senior girls (Fillies) have had an impressive year. Starting the season with a 5-2 defeat, we all knew we had work to do. We dusted ourselves off and began the hard work. Impressively, the Fillies rounded out the season on top of the ladder and secured themselves a spot in the grand final with a 2-1 win against Highlands Christian College in the semi-final. Glennie went straight to the grand final whilst Highlands, who placed second on the ladder, had another shot at making the grand final.

First place on the ladder secured us a home game, and last Monday we hosted Highlands in a nail-biter of a game that saw Highlands take an early lead. In true Fillies spirit, the girls came out in the second half, determined to claw their way back into the game. Some great football was played by both teams and the desire for the win was evident from both sides. The girls managed to secure a goal, bringing the score to 1-1, with just 10 minutes to play. Injury-stricken captain Jess Darcy wasn't going to let anything prevent her from taking her side to the first victory in this competition. It was fitting that Jess, who has been a phenomenal captain this year, scored the winning goal of the grand final!

Congratulations to the Fillies for an incredible season this year, and for being such a dedicated and hard-working group of girls - who would only whinge some of the time!!!!

Your hard work has paid off and you are now the TFL school champions; more than that, you have ended the season as a family, as opposed to starting the season as a team! (Bella Mott 2019)

Best of luck to our four seniors who will be departing this year: Jess Darcy, Erin Geddes, Shelby Dann and Brittney Nicholson - thank you for your loyal service to football; keep on playing!

Thank you to the amazing football support team of Mr Luke Whittingham, Miss Shayne Hayes and Miss Stacie Broom - we could not have done it without you!
