Darling Downs and South West Regional Equestrian Championships

A crisp but clear weekend greeted riders at the IOR Rural Darling Downs and South West Interschool Equestrian Championships held from Friday, 14 to Sunday, 16 May at the Toowoomba Showgrounds. All students participated well and although a couple of riders had to withdraw. Glennie’s run of six championships in a row finally came to an end in 2021, finishing the weekend being awarded Runner Up Secondary school. four disciplines; Dressage, Showjumping, Combined Training and Show Horse were contested. The team achieved a top three placing in each discipline and won the Dressage competition.

It was pleasing to see the number of new students participating in their first major competition for the School and competing in multiple disciplines. (Bella Anderson, Emily Ruhle, Eloise Kings, Abbey Conlan) A big shoutout to those students who, for whatever reason, had to withdraw from the competition but attended all weekend and supported their team.  Congratulations goes to Piper Wise who did an excellent job leading and encouraging her team as well as lending a guiding hand to those riders who needed some assistance. Holly Hurst kept us all entertained even though she was in quite a bit of pain, having been kicked by her horse. Charlotte Drynan supported the team and others throughout the weekend with a smiling face and plenty of lollies for our riders and parents, and carrots for their horses. Charlotte was recognised for this by the organising committee of the event.

There were a number of Glennie parents who were crucial to the success of the weekend including Rob Wheatley - Vice President, and Ben Drynan - Treasurer of the Darling Downs committee. Rob was also the chief announcer for the weekend and was assisted by Paul Reedy. Thank you also to Annabel Twine who was in charge of stabling and camping, and Kelly Stenzel and Jill Wheatley who were the Dressage and Combined Training Convenors.

Thank you to Shaz Willmington who gave up her time to pencil for Dressage. It isn't easy, and to Warren for being helpful and filling in where needed. Thank you to GEST (Glennie Equestrian Support Team) for spreading the hospitality not only to all Glennie team members and their families but also to other schools. Lastly, thank you to parents and students who assisted to construct arenas and courses and pack them up.

We wish all girls well in their preparations for the State Interschool Championships (Dressage, Showman, Show Horse and Showjumping) being held in Maryborough from Monday, 28 June to Thursday, 1 July and the State Interschool Combined Training and Eventing Championships in Warwick on Saturday, 17 and Sunday, 18 July.
