At Glennie we promote fitness and health as a way of life. Participation in team and individual sports comprises part of a balanced education.

Glennie’s Sports Program is developed to cater for all levels of competition. Your daughter can play for fun and fitness, or she can pursue personal goals to compete at a representative level. It’s up to her, and we do all we can to support her on her way.

Boarders

Boarders have exactly the same opportunities as day girls to compete at the highest level they can. Transport to and from venues is arranged and boarders can train at Glennie with specialist coaches.

Sport in the Curriculum

Girls participate in sport as part of the curriculum. Having progressed from the Motor Skills Program in Years K to 3, Junior Years girls begin interschool competition in Year 4 and continue until Year 6. In Middle and Senior Years the curriculum focus is on health, fitness and sports science. Girls in Years 7 to 12 who wish to play competitive sport join the extra-curricular Club G program.

Interhouse sports carnivals allow all girls to demonstrate their House spirit, test their skills, and do their best with a view to selection into representative teams.

Club G Team Sports

Extra-curricular sports are played after school and on weekends. Our girls compete against both regional club teams and other schools, giving them the opportunity to engage in a high standard of competition. Junior Years girls can play netball and touch football in the Club G program. A broader range of sports is available from Year 7.

Club G Specialist Coach Sports

Glennie offers coaching to all girls who wish to improve their skills in athletics, cross country, swimming, gymnastics, tennis and fitness. No previous experience is required. Our coaches are experienced and qualified professionals.

Darling Downs Representative Teams

Girls can trial for selection into a range of Darling Downs Sports Association representative teams. Selection into one of these teams can lead to Regional, State and National competitions. This is an opportunity for girls to try sports that are not offered as part of the Club G Program.

Glennie Representative Teams

Girls who demonstrate skill and dedication in the Club G competition may be selected to represent Glennie in high-level sporting tournaments and one-day carnivals. Based on results at Glennie’s Interhouse Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country carnivals, girls are selected to represent Glennie in regional carnivals.

Glennie Facilities

The Glennie School is committed to providing the best facilities possible for girls to pursue their sporting goals.
In 2018, an exciting new development, the Glennie Sports and Health Centre will commence. Incorporating the existing Aquatic Centre, this new sports facility will house three playing courts, a fitness room and classrooms.

The Glennie Athletics Track

Glennie is the only school outside the Brisbane area with an eight lane Tartan (synthetic) athletics track. In addition to the track, there are national standard synthetic high jump; long and triple jump; and throws areas to complement the quality athletics training offered to all Glennie girls.

Oval

Glennie boasts a full-size oval for exhibition matches, competitions and training. Girls use the oval for a range of Club G sports. During school hours, the oval is used for carnivals and lessons as part of the curriculum.

The Glennie Aquatic Centre

The Glennie Aquatic Centre has a ten lane, heated indoor pool, a learn to swim pool and Olympic standard starting blocks with electronic timing. From an early age, Glennie girls use the pool for learn to swim classes, squad training, recreational swimming, fitness classes, water polo and swimming carnivals. The Centre is operated by an experienced Aquatic manager and qualified Swimming Coach.

Tennis Courts

There are six paved Tennis Courts on campus. Our full-time tennis coach holds private and group lessons for girls as well as fun-filled social tennis session for adults. The Glennie community uses these courts for social games, coaching camps and competitions.

Gymnastics

Glennie’s indoor gymnastics hall boasts all of the equipment and coaching required for beginners through to Level 8 gymnasts. Glennie girls can join a gym team for fun or for serious competition. Classes are available for girls and boys of all ages. We also offer an adult gym fitness program.

Multi-sports Court

A multi-sports court is located on the Junior Years campus. This under-cover facility offers a versatile space for games, coaching and competition.

Toowoomba Sports Facilities

As part of the Club G competition, girls use purpose-built Council sports venues as well as facilities at the University of Southern Queensland.
