Swimming, lifesaving and water sports are taught at the Glennie Aquatic Centre. The Centre features a 10 lane, 25m, heated indoor pool and a smaller Learn to Swim pool, providing opportunities for involvement in aquatic and learn to swim activities all year round. Girls learn swimming skills as part of the curriculum. Girls who wish to further develop their swimming skills can join a squad or receive specialist training from Glennie’s swimming coach. Representative opportunities exist as part of the School swimming team. Glennie girls can also pursue an individual swimming career.
For Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 girls, fully qualified Learn to Swim instructors conduct lessons once a week in Term 1 and 4 as part of the curriculum. Girls are encouraged to become confident and happy swimmers. Their swimming lessons culminate in a swimming carnival in Term 4.
Girls in Years 3 to 6 continue to have swimming lessons as part of the curriculum. During regular lessons they build their skills and confidence.
In Years 7 to 9, all girls attend swimming lessons once a week in Terms 1 and 4 as part of the curriculum. Lessons vary from basic swimming skills to training for aquathons, water safety and lifesaving skills. Girls learn to swim freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and backstroke in preparation for the Inter-house Swimming Carnival.
Senior girls in Years 10 to 12 can participate in water polo, synchronised swimming, biomechanics, aquafit and lifesaving. Regular swimming is also incorporated into Health and Fitness classes.
