Leading Educational Design is the theme of the international Principals' conference which I am currently attending in Helsinki. Finland is generally considered the world's leading nation in school education. It is an interesting place, known, they say, for "sauna, sisu and Sibelius." And Santa lives in the north!
The idea of "sisu" is widely promoted: it's the Finnish word for perseverance, or grit. The Finns also describe themselves as "a land of people who love to learn". This is a peaceful country which takes education seriously and holds teachers in very high regard. It is an honour to be here.
