A Week of Boarding

31 July 2015

Saturdays are busy times in boarding with many girls playing Club G Sport. A large group of boarders attended the Interact film evening in the Hall last Saturday.

On Sunday, Mrs Crystal Watson took an activity period with a group of girls walking to Zaraffas. In addition to working as Senior Boarding staff in Brown House, Mrs Watson, an outstanding sportswoman, has recently joined us to take the boarders for some outdoor activities. Unfortunately, the Toowoomba weather made going outside a less than attractive proposition, but some girls cheerfully managed a walk in the rain. I never like to complain about rain, because we have so many families who desperately need it.

Birthday Tuesday in boarding is held on the last Tuesday of the month. We hold this regular celebration to recognise boarder birthdays with a special birthday cake, plus a card for each girl. Holiday birthdays are not forgotten and are celebrated either before or after the vacation period. All boarders who had a birthday in July enjoyed their special celebration.

On Wednesdays, the junior boarders have an early dinner before their craft activity. This is a weekly event run by Mrs McNab and Mrs Lovell.

Last Friday, Bella Chicks was a great success, all boarders were invited to attend this teen-focused event. This Friday, Mr Les Lord will hold chess lessons and Brown House is offering pizza making as an activity.

Boarding tutoring commenced last week with Mr Andrew Burger holding his first evening Maths tutorial on Thursday, 23 July. Mr Burger is available for maths support in the Head of Boarding office from 7:00 to 9:00pm each Tuesday and Thursday. Mrs Sharon Burger is assisting younger boarders with homework in Brown House on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Miss Fiona Woodward, Mrs Anna Salomon, Miss Peta Vincent and Mr Ian Bywater also provide valuable academic assistance to boarders.
