The Glennie School, Toowoomba

Congratulations to Abi Garratt for her recent selection in the 11-12 Years Darling Downs Aquathlon team. Abi will compete at the State Championships early in 2025.

Well done to Ella Pearson for her selection in the Queensland Athletics Team after her silver medal in Triple Jump at All Schools Athletics.

Andrews Cup Cricket
The final Andrews Cup event of 2024 was a success! On a hot November morning, our Junior Years Cricket team travelled to Brisbane to take part in the annual Andrews Cup Cricket competition. Despite the intense heat, the girls played with determination and showcased their cricket skills. They also wore pink accessories alongside their school uniform to show support for the McGrath Foundation. After a challenging day of competition, the girls finished in 3rd place.

Queensland Primary All Schools Touch
In the first weekend of November, the Queensland Primary All Schools Touch Tournament brought together the state’s best young touch football talent. Competing fiercely across multiple age groups, the event saw schools from every corner of Queensland battle it out for the championship. This year, Glennie was able to enter a team in the Junior and Open divisions. After the round games were completed on Saturday, the Junior team advanced through to the Cup division for finals on Sunday. After a convincing win in their quarter final, they progressed through to the semi final in which they were narrowly defeated in a drop off, finishing 3rd overall. The Senior team earned a couple of wins during their round games, advancing to the Plate division round of 16 on Sunday. Unfortunately, they were defeated in this game, bringing their campaign to an end. They did, however, show excellent spirit and fought hard until the final whistle. We extend our congratulations and thanks to all students and their coaches for a great representative season. We look forward to what is to come in 2025.

7/8 AAG Basketball
The Years 7/8 Basketball team enjoyed a day of competitive basketball at the AAG Basketball Competition.  The girls battled their way to the semifinals but, despite their efforts, were narrowly defeated, finishing in 3rd place overall.

Futsal
In Term 4, eight Glennie Futsal teams enthusiastically participated in the social Term 4 Futsal Competition. This competition is a much-anticipated, offering students an opportunity to engage in friendly, spirited matches over an enjoyable eight-week season. The finals saw The Glennie Kickstar Queens earn their place in the championship match. A big thank you to Mrs Watts and Mrs Russell for coordinating this competition!

Sophia Kavanagh – Futsal Referee
Sophia Kavanagh has gone from strength to strength in the futsal refereeing space. This term, Sophia has refereed in the Term 4 school girls futsal competition and the State Futsal Championships, and has become a sought after referee.  She has just returned from refereeing at the National School Titles in Brisbane where she was awarded a grand final game.  After her performance at the National Titles, Sophia has put herself in the running for an opportunity to referee at an International Futsal Competition in January. We look forward to hearing Sophia’s next achievements.
