Why are you passionate about girls education?
Over the years, I have witnessed girls who started their education in a co-ed school and then changed to Glennie/other girls' schools. When they arrived, they sometimes lacked confidence in their ability and did not know that they could give "anything" a go. I saw that especially with my daughter, who initially was not keen on sports but then became very confident in her abilities in swimming and touch football. Girls can do anything!
What sets Glennie apart from the other schools?
The areas I teach in - French Immersion and Dance.
What is something others may not know about you?
I majored in German and taught dance in Germany for two years, after which I worked in Cambodia and Vietnam. Whilst in Asia, I managed dance schools for local and ex-pat children and taught ESL in colleges and major companies.
What excites you about teaching?
The joy my subject areas bring to children. For example, seeing girls blossom into confident dancers on stage, and watching the girls on the French Immersion trip (who initially were very scared to open their mouths and utter any French for fear of making a mistake) develop life long friends on the other side of the world.
What do you think the future of teaching looks like?
I can see the use of technology being a huge part of classrooms in the future. In languages, the students will have access to exciting resources to practise their skills (reading/writing/listening/speaking - pronunciation) outside the classroom, 24/7.
