I want to encourage our girls to be confident that they can achieve all of their life goals. I am from a family of three sisters and I know first-hand that with support and encouragement, our girls have the right platform to shine.
What sets Glennie apart from the other schools?
Glennie has a strong focus of promoting that girls can do and be anything that they set their minds to. Encouraging independence and confidence in students, Glennie provides the foundations to allow girls to go forward and star in life.
What is something others may not know about you?
I recently moved to Toowoomba from Victoria with my young family.
What excites you about teaching?
Providing support and confidence to students in their quest for making sense of the world around them.
What do you think the future of teaching looks like?
I believe there is a future where students are more in control of their learning: asking questions to make sense of their world, and being exposed to a curriculum that is relevant to their interests and concerns. Teachers are the facilitators.
What are your professional achievements and roles?
After completing a Bachelor of Forest Science degree in 1998, I used my mathematical skills in a retail buying capacity, quantifying national purchases and planning sale events for some well-known fashion and homewares brands. I purchased my own business thereafter, employing and training young people in the day-to-day running of my store. Missing the engagement with Science and enjoying working with my young staff, led me to make the decision to study education, with the aim of focusing on Science/Biology (my passion for preserving our environment for future generations and working in a career that supports our young people was at the forefront of this decision). I was lucky enough to take a position at St Mary's College in Seymour, Victoria upon completion of my Dip.Ed. After five years of teaching Science, Maths and P.E there, my family moved to Toowoomba in 2017. I feel privileged to now be a part of the Glennie community.
