Mrs Lou Holley

Director of Sport, Teacher

How many years have you been teaching?
28 years

Which subject/s do you teach?
Health and Physical Education

What qualifications do you hold?
Bachelor of Physical Education
Bachelor of Education

Which other subject areas are you interested in?

Why are you passionate about girls education?
I love to see girls blossom and flourish in an all-girls environment where they are free to just be themselves. It is important to empower girls to feel that they can do anything that they want. It is is important that girls can learn in an environment that is less judgmental in a different way than in a co-education situation.

What sets Glennie apart from the other schools?
Glennie has clearly beautiful facilities and luckily for me, it has amazing sporting facilities with the tartan Athletics track and the new three court Clive Berghoffer Sports Centre. Glennie girls are down to earth, they have a great team/school spirit and are happy, polite and lovely to be around.

What is something others may not know about you?
I really enjoy cooking, in particular, sweet things and eating them.

What excites you about teaching?
In the subject of Health and Physical Education, we have so many topics that are just everyday skills that the girls can use. I really enjoy when the girls ask really interesting questions because this makes me think that they are processing the information and trying to figure it all out. I really really just love talking to the girls and having conversations with them. I like being able to hopefully have a positive influence on a student's life.

What do you think the future of teaching looks like?
It looks different but still good. I think as we have moved into a technological age there certainly will be more education based around technology but having said that I think things go full circle also and I think educators will still realise the importance of getting off technology and going 'old school' in patches of the curriculum also.

What are your professional achievements and roles?
2019 - Director of Sport - The Glennie School
2013 - NSW Minister for Education Award - Excellence to Teaching (only one of 10 people in NSW)
