Why are you passionate about girls education?
After teaching for 27 years in Education Queensland, it was beautiful to watch girls feel free to express themselves. My first day at Glennie I saw girls twirling on the oval, something that I'd never witnessed at a co-ed school. They were so comfortable being girls and it was wonderful to witness.
What sets Glennie apart from the other schools?
What is something others may not know about you?
Until 2019, I guess people didn't know I was a Home Ec teacher before I started teaching exclusively in the English department. In 2014 I won a National Excellence in Teaching Award (NETA), State Finalist, but I didn't pursue the competition further, as I had just been given a position at Glennie and I did not have the time to complete the competition requirements to the degree required.
What excites you about teaching?
That light bulb moment when girls learn something new. It is inspiring when a girl discovers a new skill and realises she is really good at it.
What do you think the future of teaching looks like?
More choices in the manner the curriculum is delivered, the subjects available, the way the school day is structured, and improved technologies for students and teachers.
