USQ Scholarships

It is around this time of the year that the Year 12 students start to narrow their future study options. The questions they have thought about for the past three years, or even longer, begin to require answers: What do I want to study? Where do I want to study? Will I move away from Toowoomba? What accommodation options are available?

Throughout this term, the girls have been encouraged to explore. I have asked them to dig a bit deeper into the courses they are considering. What subjects will I study in this course? What practical elements are involved? What are the employment outcomes and future job prospects from this course? What are the realities of moving away to study? We want the girls to make decisions that are well informed.

Financial support and access to scholarships is an important consideration in the decision-making process. This week, USQ announced that they will once again be offering their Become Rewarded Scholarships. These scholarships are USQ’s way of encouraging high-achieving students to stay in our local communities.

What are the scholarships?

The Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship valued at $29,000. This is automatically awarded to students who achieve an ATAR 97 or above and put USQ as their number one preference. It includes an optional study abroad package and leadership development.

The Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship valued up to $20,000, awarded to students with an ATAR 88 or above.

The  Executive Dean's Scholarship valued up to $6,000 for students with an ATAR 84 or above.

To be eligible for these scholarships, students must have their USQ course listed as number one on their preferences and must begin their studies in Semester 1, 2021.

In Term 3, all Year 12 girls will have the opportunity to attend an exit interview with me to work through their preferencing and pathway options. Parents are more than welcome to attend these meetings. Of course, the girls know that they do not need to wait until then. They are more than welcome to meet with myself, or Mrs Belinda Paul, our VET Coordinator, whenever they need. We love the buzz and excitement of future planning in our Careers and VET room.
