This week, Year 9 completed a chemistry-based challenge to determine which chemicals could have been used to create the coloured flames in the exhaust of the cars in a clip from the Disney movie “Cars”. The girls tested the best acid carbonate fuel combination in laboratory experiments. They used the reactants that produced the greatest amount of gas in the fastest reaction in their film canister rocket.
This was a hands-on experiment that required modification to a method.
The girls commented that this activity was a lot of fun and that it cheered them up after a tough day.
