Year 8 Debating

The year 08 Debating Team has been undefeated this semester. The team that consists of; Sophie Fleming, Kristen Davies, Rheanca Lincoln, Gabrielle Prosser, Rishini Thilakpriya, Sally Byrne and Holly Beaton have won all four of their debates.

This is a considerable achievement, especially when it is considered that not all of these girls have debated before. The girls were organised, thorough and consistently produced logical and well-researched speeches. All the girls should be immensely proud of their efforts. We will be heading into the finals next term!

On Wednesday, 06 March. The girls first competed against Centenary Heights State School, arguing for the Affirmative, “That we should experiment on animals”. We then went up against Fairholme College on Wednesday, 03 April, where we were Negative that ‘Australia should become a Republic’. On Wednesday, 08 May, we faced Fairholme College again in a secret topic debate. We found out on the night that we were Negative that ‘Zoos should be banned’. Our final round was Wednesday, 29 May against Toowoomba Anglican School,
where we were Affirmative that ‘Parents should attend detention with their children’.

It was an absolute pleasure to be the Debating Team coach this semester. The girls wore their uniforms with pride and were a credit to The Glennie School. They were always gracious, humble and modest in victory. Well done girls!
