Sayonara Kyoto

From Thursday, 7 March until Saturday, 16 March, 31 students from our sister school, Kyoto Girls' Junior High School, came to visit on their annual study tour.

The girls had a fantastic time learning English and some Australian culture during their stay. They were well looked after by their wonderful host families, with some girls enjoying excursions to Darling Downs Zoo, Kloud9ine, Brisbane, Jondaryan Woolshed, netball carnivals and, of course, shopping at Grand Central, where many Tim Tams were purchased to take home to Japan as souvenirs!

The girls also made a valuable contribution to the Glennie Fair with their Japanese calligraphy stall and managed to raise over $200 for the Parents and Friends’ Association. Kirara Tsuyama demonstrated her outstanding tennis skills on the day, winning a tennis racquet for her fast serve. The sayonara party was unforgettable, with a martial arts demonstration that left some attendees gasping with shock!

Many thanks must go to the host families, who welcomed these girls into their homes. They loved their time so much that there were quite a few tears shed upon departure, and some girls did not want to get on the bus!

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Bronnie Stiles and Mrs Lyndrea Lynch for all of their hard work behind the scenes to ensure the tour ran smoothly. Special acknowledgement must go to Ms Karina Seeto, who not only worked as the girls' English teacher, but was also their point of contact for any issues or worries at the start of each day, and assisted with their excursions.

We look forward to meeting the next group of students coming next year.
