To cap off an excellent year for Glennie Equestrian, Sarah Coggan, 2019 Glennie Equestrian Captain was voted by the State Interschool Equestrian Committee to be the Interschool Queensland State Team Captain for the National Championships. These are being held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre in September where Sarah will lead a team of 90 riders.
Sarah’s selection was in recognition of her dedication, enthusiasm, personality and ability, and also for her 12 years of service to the association. The last Glennie student to captain the State team was Sarah’s sister, Emily, in 2015.
At the Darling Downs Championships, Sarah was the recipient of the ‘Summers Trophy’ for the second year in a row, an award given to the Secondary rider who has accumulated the most points across the overall competition. She then went on to win the Brett Family Trophy for the Overall Champion Secondary Rider at the recent State Championships and Secondary Hi-Point “Off The Track Thoroughbred”. In both these championships, Sarah rode in every discipline and often competed on two horses.
Sarah’s horse, ‘Undiees’ nearly died in 2018 after being severely injured in a stable accident. While others would have put the horse down, Sarah and her family elected to save him.
Glennie Year 11 student, Kate Johnstone, has been named as Vice Captain of the Eventing Team as part of the National Equestrian Team.
Well done, Sarah and Kate, we are very proud of you both.
