On Saturday, 5 September our Junior Years Cross Country Team competed in the Queensland State Championships in Ipswich. Our small and powerful pack showed marked improvement from their all-schools performance only a few weeks ago.
Violet Richardson was the gold medalist in the 6 years girls 1000m event, running 26 seconds faster than her all-schools competition. Sofia Sheppard and Ruby Richardson finished 14th and 19th in the 10 years 2000m event. Both running over 40 seconds faster than their personal bests!
Ella Donovan crossed the line in 5th place in the 11 years 3000m. Unfortunately, national titles have been cancelled for 2020, however, Ella's performance is recognised as an unofficial selection in the 2020 National Championship Team. This is a huge achievement for Ella and a fantastic way to end her Junior Years Cross Country season. I am excited to work alongside Ella next year and officially earn the maroon tracksuit!
The resilience the girls have shown in the 2020 Cross Country season is inspiring. Not surprisingly, COVID-19 upended their sporting calendar. With all the uncertainty and speculations of this event being cancelled, the girls continued to train at a high standard which is a testament to their character.
Congratulations on a successful season girls, I am already excited for 2021.
