Queensland All Schools Touch Football

Week 1 of Term 4 is always exciting for our Touch girls as we embark on our travels to the Queensland All Schools Touch Football competition. This year we took both an Under 13 team and an Open team which consisted of wonderful touch players.

The Under 13 team had a tough pool and came across some extremely skilled teams. The girls won three from three on day one and were extremely excited to see what day two had to bring.

Unfortunately, the girls had some losses early on day two, which meant they had a must win game against Brisbane State High School. The girls had a wonderful start to the game with two early tries which threw Brisbane off their feet. The game was strenuous, tiring and the girls fought hard for a final score of 2-2.

Unfortunately, a draw meant we did not progress through to the top 16, however, we want to commend the U13s for their efforts throughout the tournament. We hope you have learnt many things and you are ready to take on 2020 World All Schools. Thanks must go to super coach Natalie Leicht for guiding the girls and providing them with the knowledge needed to compete at such a high level. Thanks Nat.

The Open team, consisting of mostly U15 year olds travelled down to All Schools ready to take them on. The girls began their tournament with some wonderful wins due to incredible rucking through the middle. Everyone underestimated our young pack of middles and they regretted that.

The girls move through to their round game on Saturday and they knew they had a big job to do with four games within six hours. The girls had some tough games and some fabulous wins, putting them in good stead for finals. Unfortunately, this was not the case, the girls were so very close and should be commended on their efforts. I would like to thank the wonderful Opens Coach Abbie Prendergast for her efforts throughout the season, the girls could not have competed at that level without your expertise.

I would also like to say a massive thank you to all the parents and friends for supporting your daughters on this journey. We appreciate the time, effort and money needed to allow them to compete.

Finally, thank you to the All Schools Touch girls. You were amazing to have on tour and I appreciate all the help you gave me whilst being away. You wore your Glennie logo with pride and you were a true testament to the School and your parents.

I’m so proud and I can’t wait to do it again next year.
