Ekene Aghanwa, Katherine Chicalas and I spent two weeks in Canberra at a Nerd Camp over the summer holidays. Well not really a nerd camp, the official name is the National Youth Science Forum. It is a congregation in our Nation’s capital of almost 600 STEM loving students from all across Australia. At this 12 day residential camp at Burgman College, Australian National University, there were over 300 STEM visits with countless tours, workshops, dinners, socialising and lots of photo taking. NYSF is a chance to look beyond school at future careers, make lifelong friends and have heaps of fun along the way.
Unfortunately, NYSF is only open to people going into Year 12 next year so if in Year 11 I strongly encourage you to apply, even if you have the smallest interest in science and want to spend 2 weeks at a camp that is well and truly life-changing. I can assure you it is not all STEM-based. So If you have any questions at all regarding any of these Nerd Camps feel free to come and talk to Ekene, Katie, Thedini or me.
