National SwimSAFER Award

Glennie Aquatics took out the national SwimSAFER award at the Ascta (Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Assoc.) Gala Dinner, held at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Saturday 4th May 2019.

Glennie Aquatics incorporates the SwimSAFER message into its regular lessons, school swimming, baby and carer, migrant swimming and squad programs. In addition, the Glennie Aquatics team enjoy sharing their skills and knowledge in Swim Australia's National SwimSAFER week, held in November each year.  The theme for the 2018 SwimSAFER was beach safety. Parents were invited to participate in the sessions with their children moving through a circuit of stations to develop skills and knowledge and to practice techniques;

  • Spot a rip
  • Get out of a rip
  • Float-wave-yell technique
  • Beach safety rules
  • Swim through rough water
  • Lifejacket activities.

The Glennie Aquatics team loved the opportunity to dress in beach themed gear and share important swimming and beach safety messages.

To accept the award, Shannon Townsend and the Glennie Aquatics team performed her new SwimSAFER song "put your phone down" to an enthusiastic crowd!
