Glennie hosted the live event ‘Madonna King – TEN-AGER’ on Thursday, 22 April. Parents and educators from many schools and districts, came along to our Clive Berghofer Glennie Sports Centre, to meet one of Australia’s most accomplished parenting authors, commentators and journalists - Madonna King.
The best-selling author of Being 14, and Fathers and Daughters, Madonna shared with us everything we need to know about our daughter’s shift from child to teenager. She helped us understand what they feel, what they think, what worries her and what we can do to help as parents and educators alike. In her research, Madonna sought the counsel of 500 10-year-old girls, 1600 mothers, 100 Year 5 school teachers, school principals, teen psychologists, doctors, researchers and female role models for her new book, TEN-AGER.
While the anticipation of Madonna’s arrival was building, our guests were calmed by on-screen entertainment of our talented performing art students. Madonna was then welcomed by our Head of Junior Years, Mrs Kate Harris. Madonna took the stage and spoke candidly to our audience, taking the time to answer many questions from concerned guests at a time where social media is so predominant. Guests were fortunate at the conclusion of the event, to meet Madonna personally, purchase her award-winning books and have them signed. Many thanks must go to Matthew Russell, our IT Manager, for arranging this event to be live streamed for our remote boarder families.
Many thanks to all of those who attended this special event. It was such an honour to be the school chosen to showcase Madonna King in the Darling Downs area, and a wonderful opportunity to share our warmth and fabulous facilities with our local community.
The event would not have been possible without the amazing staff who assisted from Katrina Wood and the Junior Years Staff, Development Office, Workshop, IT, Performing Arts, Sports Centre and Aquatics.
