Katie competes in Lion Youth of the Year

On Saturday 23 February Katie Chicalas (Year 12) competed in the Lions Youth of the Year. The competition now in its fifty-fifth year and seeks to identify young people who seek to gain experience in the areas of leadership, personal improvement, sportsmanship, citizenship, community involvement and public speaking.

Katie had to deliver a five minute prepared speech and two impromptu speeches. She was also required to attend an interview with a panel of three judges. Katie was asked about her own interests, achievements and about her awareness of local, national and international events or news.

In total there were seven competitors from, The Glennie School,  St. Ursula's College, St. Mary's College, Harristown State High School, Fairholme College and Toowoomba Grammar School.

Katie won the Leanne Sleeba Memorial Trophy for the public speaking section. She also won the overall competition and now proceeds to the Regional Final.
