The Karyn Murphy Cup Finals were held on Monday afternoon at Valley’s Rugby League. Glennie had all three teams make the finals, a major success for the girls.
The first game was the Years 7 and 8 teams who were set to face Harristown State High School. The girls began with some hard-hitting runs and scored two wonderful tries. However, Harristown was too strong for us. Special mention must go to Ruby Williams who made some extraordinary tackles and extremely hard-hitting runs. We would like to congratulate and thank the girls for playing the game with minimal subs against an opposition who were much bigger than us. You all tackled your hardest and worked together fighting until the end.
The second game was the Years 9 and 10 teams who were taking on St Saviours College for the Cup. This game was set to be well contested. The girl's defence in the first half was truly amazing, conceding zero tries and scoring many. The second half proved slightly more difficult as the girls became tired. However, this did not stop them from finishing the job and becoming gracious, yet very loud and proud winners of the Karyn Murphy Cup. Special mention must go to Holly Anlezark who scored multiple tries and fought to keep her team spirits high. Congratulations girls, your drive, passion and desire to succeed was tremendous and you did it whilst having the most fun I have ever seen on a footy field.
The Years 11 and 12 team sadly had to forfeit due to illness and injury. However, we managed to get a team together to give Warwick State High School a game. The girls played hard and got some good combinations working within their team. Congratulations to the girls who came for their final game, we are proud of your determination to finish until the end.
