Intermediate Schools Cup

Glennie represented the school in the Intermediate Schools Cup over the weekend.  The team players were Holly Beaton, Rose Beveridge, Bella Brimblecombe, Hayley Catlow, Elizabeth Fairbanks-Smith, Sophie Giesemann, Alex Sharp, Nyah Thorn and  JonJon Yip

The weekend had a slow start, with the girls still figuring out playing together.

Game 1 vs Proserpine –
We, unfortunately, went down 0-3, to a side with strong servers as we were shaking out the nerves and were slow to get into game mode.

Game 2 vs Springfield AC –
With the result going against us 0-3 to the team who came second overall, the girls held their own. Never giving up and always fighting for points, the score does not reflect the way the girls played.

Game 3 vs Pittsworth –
Taking our first win 2-0, the girls were in the rhythm of the game until the end. Playing a controlled and high energy game.

Game 4 vs Beaudesert –
Again, another strong team, with the result going against us 0-2. Our first set was strong and pushed for points but we dropped off in the second set and they ran away with it.

Game 5 vs Mt Maria –
A great game by the girls with us taking the win 2-0, even in the conditions of playing in the freezing weather at 7:40pm. We played flawlessly together and really found a flow.

Game 6 vs St Thomas More –
Our playoff game for 5th/6th; a very close game coming down to the result going our way 2-1.

I would like to thank the girls for the great weekend, and the way they conducted themselves through all of it, whether playing or duty; showing respect and sportsmanship no matter the result.

To the Year 10s, for their leadership and control on the court and to the Year 9s, for stepping up and listening to advice to better themselves.

Special mention to Alex Sharp (Captain) for the skills shown in all aspects of the game and her positive attitude to everything for the weekend.

Amazing effort from Rose Beveridge, for constantly putting her body on the line to get the ball and getting back up without complaints.
