Glennie vs Grammar

One of the most anticipated events of the year was held this week - the Glennie Vs Grammar Football game.

In front of a packed crowd, our very own Glennie Fillies Footballers, plus our representative NPL Thunder girls, took on the Grammar Year 12 Prefects in the hotly contested match-up.

This annual event is hosted by the Interact Committee and the charity of choice this year was Emerge Cafe, Toowoomba's very own youth organisation that provides emergency accommodation, employment, mentorship, and opportunities.

The scene was set with a massive turnout of Glennie and Grammar supporters. The sausages were sizzling and so was the football! Sensational skills were displayed by both teams and the girls opened the score with a blinder of a goal. The Grammar boys were caught off guard as they had underestimated the talents of our Year 12 girls. Saving face before the half, the boys equalised with a decent shot.

Both teams came out firing in the second half and dazzled the crowds with their impressive skills. The quality of football was really very good and it was a very entertaining performance by both sides. Sadly, the physicality of the girls got the better of the Grammar boys and an injury was sustained early in the second half. As the scoreline was tied, it was agreed that a penalty shoot-out was the only way to settle the score to decide who would lift the Trophy.

Rebecca Lamb was sensational in goal as she faced the brunt of a strong and technically good Grammar side. Powering shots her way, Bec took it all in her stride and deflected shots at all angles. Literally, no one wanted to be in Bec's shoes at this point as the boys lined up their best five strikers.

Undeterred, the Glennie girls did the same and scored some absolute screamers. It all came down to the last shot and sadly this year, it was not meant to be as we went down 5 - 4 on penalties.

We would like to thank the Grammar boys for playing like true gentlemen. We wish their injured player a speedy recovery and thank them for their participation once again this year.

Thank you to Mrs Skett and the Interact Committee for organising such a wonderful event and working with the Football program. A special mention must go to Cindy and Lauren Ryan for all of their efforts in the lead-up to this event.

Thank you also to everyone who came to support this event. All in all, a total of $500 was raised for this wonderful cause.
