From The Principal 5 March 2021

Without doubt, this has been one of the most wonderful weeks in my teaching career. My Commissioning as the 14th Principal of The Glennie School saw our beautiful school on show. The girls, every single one of them were exceptional; whether they were singing, presenting, reading or just attending to support their Principal, I could not have been more proud of them.

Now that I am officially the Principal of Glennie, it has placed me in elite company and I am grateful to each and every one of them for putting their stamp upon Glennie which has made it the truly great school that it is. It is now up to me and my team of staff, students and the wider Glennie Community, to build upon these foundations, allowing Glennie to be All She Can Be®. What a challenge and what an honour.

Another great occasion this week was the Glennie Cross Country Carnival.  The newest recruit to the Glennie staff was suitably impressed by our exceptional sporting talent and community spirit. I am, of course, talking about Mr Brett Jones who has been appointed as Director of the Glennie Sports Academy and started work at Glennie this week. Brett joins us with almost 30 years of experience as an elite sports coach and educator. Brett has prepared athletes for six Paralympic Games and Paralympic World  Championships, two International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Championships and four Commonwealth Games.

He has been contracted to sporting teams such as the Australian Wallabies, the Brisbane Broncos, the Cowboys, the Australian European Handball team, Australian Wheelchair Basketball teams and Surfing Australia’s adaptive team. He has developed successful sporting programmes for a number of sporting agencies including the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), the Australian Coaching Council (ACC), and the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS).

In addition to his superior coaching skills, he has extensive professional knowledge and experience in the wider sporting and fitness sectors. Brett’s immediate focus will be to develop a strategic plan and programme for the new Sports Academy, an initiative that will come to fruition in Semester 2, 2021. We believe this Academy will re-position Glennie as the school of choice for students wishing to pursue excellence in sports. Over the longer term, the Academy will aim to provide a range of vocational opportunities and accreditation for students wanting to pursue a career in sports coaching, sports health, fitness, and training. Oh, and I forgot to say, he is a really good guy.

With every blessing for a wonderful week ahead.
