Fewer COVID restrictions and more favourable weather conditions ensured a very successful Glennie Equestrian Dressage and Showjumping qualifier on the weekend of 13 and 14 March. The Dressage competition was run on Saturday and the Showjumping competition was run over the two days.
An event like this does not occur without many people putting many hours into organising every detail. Firstly, a huge thank you needs to go to Kirsty Ferguson who coordinated the event, convenors, Kelly Stenzel (Dressage) and Jill Wheatley (Showjumping) and the Glennie Equestrian Support Team (GEST) committee for being the driving force behind the event. Along with setting up arenas and carrying out the usual administrative tasks that go with an event such as this, these people put in more hours than usual, ensuring that all safety measures were in place to comply with the current government health regulations for both humans and horses.
The weekend would not have been as successful if it wasn’t for our sponsors, some of whom have been supporting our event for many years. We would like to thank:
for being our major sponsors in 2021. The Toowoomba Racing Industry’s partnership with Glennie Equestrian in supporting and promoting the re-homing and re-training of former racehorses has continued this year. Glennie is proud to be in partnership with the local racing industry to recognise the importance of these horses in our sport. The Glennie Equestrian Supporters Team awarded a rug to the Champion “Off the Track” Thoroughbred for the weekend. As well, all “Off the Track” Thoroughbreds received a rosette for competing.
Thank you also to
Thank you to Sharon Willmington who organised as much of the hospitality for judges and marketing display material as possible before she left to attend another event. Thank you to Gen Ruhle and Jill Hurst who took over and coordinated the hospitality for the weekend.
An event like this would not be the same without Paul Reedy manning the microphone, announcing events and placings, and of course, promoting the School. His family also continues to support the School, ensuring both students and horses in their care are well looked after.
A special thank you needs to go to the State Interschool Committee for supporting us and our event, particularly Clint Peters and Anna Starosta, Chair and Vice-Chair of Interschool Qld State Committee. They attended and assisted over the two days.
Thank you to the Glennie staff who made an appearance and supported our girls on the day, Ms Mary Anne Evans (Principal) who also presented an award to the girls, Mrs Sue Sullivan (Teacher) for your support and special guest who has not seen some of her girls in a while, Mrs Brenda Suhr (past Deputy Head of Junior Years).
Thank you to all riders for carrying out tasks when needed and assisting on some of the larger jobs. I don’t think we have had arenas pulled down quite so quickly on the last day.
Lastly, thank you to our Glennie riders who participated over the weekend. Your sportsmanship and enthusiasm make it all so much more enjoyable. It was so pleasing to see how much everyone has improved since last year. It was particularly exciting to see the number of new students riding for their first time for Glennie. Well done Bella Anderson, Eloise Kings, Emily Ruhle and Abbey Conlan for your contributions over the weekend.
