Contributing to the Community Story of our Service Personnel

Do you have a special object from your family’s history associated with war, conflict or peacetime military service which you could share on camera in a video interview?

The experience of war is an integral part of The Glennie School’s history, with the School being the site of a hospital for returned servicemen, and girls contributing to the war effort through community service initiatives. Many Glennie families have members who have played a role in various conflicts as part of our armed forces and we would love to share our Glennie families’ stories on camera as part of a Department of Veterans Affairs ‘Saluting their Service’ Community Grant to honour the service and sacrifice of Australian service personnel. This would involve approximately 45 minutes of your time at the USQ Toowoomba or USQ Springfield campus, or at Glennie, should there be sufficient interest. Glennie parents and community members are encouraged to lodge an expression of interest and students are invited to make contact with Dr Bedford.

You would need to bring with you a special object, which could include, for example, photographs, letters, medals, newspaper cuttings, uniforms etc., which has special significance in your family because of its link to a family member who served in the Australian Navy, Army, or Air Force.

The artefact will be used as the focus of this interview during which you explain its significance to your family and its connection to a family member who served. The interview will be edited into a shorter segment as part of a documentary capturing these often unknown stories in our local community. The documentary will be screened at community venues such as local RSL branches and online.

We are seeking members of the Toowoomba, Springfield and Ipswich communities to take part both within and outside of USQ. Please feel free to pass this information on to people in these local areas who you think may be interested in participating and contributing to the broader community story of local service personnel.

If you are interested please complete the attached Expression of Interest by Monday, 31 May 2021.
