Some call chess “gymnastics of the mind.” These people say that playing the game raises your IQ and improves general cognition and problem-solving skills.

Every Friday at lunch, the Middle and Senior Years Chess Club meets in the Library.  Members drop in when they can and play anyone who is free and up for a game.  This weekend, some of our members are competing in the Toowoomba Schools Chess Tournament.

The game isn’t all black and white. There are skills and strategies to be learnt and it is really fun watching the girls find out new things from our Coach, Ben.

Having said that, no prior skill, ability or knowledge of chess is needed to join in the fun on Fridays. All who are interested in learning and/or playing chess are invited to come along and we’ll show you the ropes.  We can guarantee that you’ll be taking pawns left, right and centre pretty soon!

So do yourself a favour and consider joining the Chess Club.
