Our time away at the Volleyball Intermediate Schools Cup saw the girls grow and adapt to each-other’s strengths and weaknesses with limited preparation.
Our group stage of the competition showed the girls had the determination and skills to stick with the stronger schools, placing 2nd overall heading into playoffs. A tough game against the other pool’s 1st place team (Glasshouse), dropped our spirits in a rough 2-0 set loss pushing us to play for overall 3rd or 4th place against Beaudesert, a team we had drawn with previously. Our final game was by far our best performance of the whole weekend; the girls came to play and showed they deserved their medal placing of bronze, taking down Beaudesert in two sets 25-20, 25-23.
Special commendations to Mia Coetzee (MVP) for being the team’s safety net and setting up our team for opportunities; Imogen Saal, Halle Webster and Alexandra Sharp for ultimately being an iron wall at the net, punishing teams for poor attacks and defense; and Rose Beveridge (Libro) for putting her body on the line to keep the ball alive and taking on scary attacks from the opposition without hesitation.
I’m very proud of the girls, no result would have changed this but it was great to see them earn themselves a bronze medal for their performances.
