Our whole school community gathered for the Ash Wednesday service on Wednesday, 26 February to mark the beginning of Lent. The Right Reverend Cameron Venables, Bishop for the Western Region, led a moving service of song and prayer, delivered in a way that connected with students of all ages.
During the service, Bishop Cam blessed a group of staff members and traced the sign of the cross on their foreheads with ashes as a Lent symbol of ending, being sorry and looking forward to the future with hope. These staff then went on to administer the ashes and bless the rest of the congregation which created a lovely message of togetherness and a sense of a shared journey.
Many students were involved in making the service so special. Junior Years girls brought forth symbols, Middle and Senior Years girls gave Bible readings and our Glennie Singers and Choral Group combined to sing a beautiful rendition of the John Rutter hymn, May God Bless You and Keep You, conducted by Mrs Vicki Bravery and accompanied by Mrs Jayne Davidson.
We thank Bishop Cam for leading the service and are grateful for the part he plays in our Glennie community.
