In 2019, students at The Glennie School have the opportunity to participate in an exclusive after-school program, 'Academic Extension Through Chess'.
'Academic Extension Through Chess' is an engaging, challenging and rewarding program where students learn to play chess, develop their skills and consider critical life-lessons through chess. Throughout the year, we will prepare Glennie Girls to represent the school at regional chess tournaments where they have a rare opportunity to compete against other students without the common barriers of gender, age and physical ability.
We meet Monday afternoons in the Junior Years Art Room from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm, with an additional hour of coaching for advanced players from 4:30 pm - 5:30 pm. Fees do apply and payment must be made to Mr Carter directly.
Mr Carter is the chess coach who is a fully registered teacher and has been extending minds and teaching critical life-lessons through chess for the past four years at Glennie. His combination of classroom teaching experience and passion for engaging students in chess is rare indeed.
Middle and Senior Years students may register to participate or apply to assist with coaching those who are learning the game. Please contact Mr Carter if you do wish to apply to be an assistant.
