A message from the Chaplain 3 May

Baptism, Admission to Communion and Confirmation.

Each year we offer the opportunity for girls to be welcomed into the life of the Anglican Church. Baptism is available to all at any time and can be arranged with Rev’d Sharon.

Admission to Communion is usually offered for girls in Year 5 or 6. This service will be in Term 3 with a period of preparation beforehand. Older girls are also able to be admitted to communion if they wish. Please make contact with Rev’d Sharon if you would like more information.

Confirmation is usually for girls who are 15 years old or older. This year our service will be on Wednesday, 19th June in the School Chapel. Adults are also welcome to be confirmed or received into the Anglican Church on this occasion.

I will be speaking to the girls in Chapel services about these opportunities to further develop their faith journeys. One of my mentors once described these points in time on our Christian journey as like a jigsaw puzzle. Baptism is putting the corner pieces in place and searching for the edges. Admission to Holy Communion is placing these edge pieces with feelings of belonging and understanding God’s love through Jesus. Confirmation is beginning to fill in the significant images in the puzzle. We learn how God walks beside us, about prayer and worship and for those who were baptised as young children we affirm the promises made on our behalf on that occasion for ourselves, committing to a life with God.

Preparation for Confirmation will begin in Week 4. If this is something you would like to pursue for yourself or your daughter please email Rev’d Sharon by Thursday, 9 May. mitchells@glennie.qld.edu.au

Chapel Services this week

This week I channelled my inner Scientist (really I’m usually quite afraid of scientific experiments) to teach the girls about Forgiveness. Connecting with the story of Easter and God’s great love for us. We used eggs, food colouring and bleach to see the impact of God’s offer of unconditional love and forgiveness in our lives. View the photo gallery of MIddle and Senior Years Chapel here. Due to the Opening of the Sports Centre next week, Yrs 3 - 6 girls will have to wait a few weeks to experience my Scientific prowess. Thank you to the Science department for helping me to look the part and implement this crazy chapel idea!
