What parents want

11 May 2018

Dear Parents,

We want to find out what’s important to Glennie parents. I am writing to request your participation in an important longitudinal survey. What Parents Want – an Independent Schools Queensland Survey examines the decision-making process parents undertake when choosing an independent school, including:

  • cultural influences,
  • varying sources of information, and;
  • the relative importance of a myriad of factors that can guide school choice.

I encourage all parents of Prep, Year 7 and new students to complete this valuable survey.

Please click here to complete the survey. It should take approximately 15-20 minutes.

Glennie will be provided fortnightly updates to indicate our school’s parent response rate.

It is of great importance that we as a school understand how and why parents make such a decision. Why did you send your child to an independent school and how is Glennie different from the others? This is a critical question many of you faced before deciding on Glennie as your school of choice.

The summary of findings from the survey will provide a framework for Glennie to continue to meet the needs of our parent body, while giving a strong basis on which to formulate strategy and decision-making in the future.

Glennie is committed to listening to our community and we appreciate your participation in this valuable survey over the next month.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Kim Cohen

Sibling fighting: what to do

11 May 2018

Parent Webinar

Glennie is a partner school to Parenting Ideas. As a result parents are able to access webinars that are a valuable support tool as they parent their children.

There is a parent webinar coming up soon entitled: Sibling fighting: what to do.

All Glennie parents will have been sent details to their Glennie email account with details including a voucher code. Logging on using this voucher code will give Glennie parents access to the webinar for free. This is a saving of $37 per person.

Here are some details

Parents often don’t know how to react when children fight. Often their reactions simply promote more fighting rather than reduce it. So what parents do when kids fight is critical to relationship-building and family harmony.

Healthy families know how to fight well.  When parents take an active approach to helping their children resolve their fights, they are teaching them a valuable life skill as well as reducing the incidence of fighting over the long term.

Spend a rare hour with premier Parenting Educator Michael Grose as he explores the weird and wonderful world of sibling relationships. He’ll help you develop an active approach to resolving sibling disputes so they learn valuable life skills and will provide you with some handy schoolyard survival skills.

  • Tuesday 15 May 2018 7:30pm – 8:30pm AEST

  • This webinar is $37 per person. If you use your voucher code it is free.

Who is talking

  • This webinar will be hosted by Dr Jodi Richardson with presenter Michael Grose.

Poppy Workshop

4 May 2018

There will be a second poppy workshop next weekend on Sunday 13 May. Yes, it’s Mothers Day, but if you don’t have anything planned why not spend it with us making poppies?

There are plenty of jobs to do and we still need more poppies. Our last workshop was a fun day and we still had time for morning tea and lunch! Come to the Home Economics sewing room (near the Chapel) between 10am and 2pm. Bring your lunch and something to share for morning tea; we’ll provide tea, coffee and all the poppy making supplies you need.

If you would just like to come and drop off or collect poppies, or even just see our display as a work in progress, you’re most welcome.

Mrs Tina Tilden

This survey will help us to identify our areas of strength and weakness, and we will be working hard to improve where we can.  Please answer the questions with respect to your daughter's/daughters' experiences at The Glennie School over the past 12 months.
