Bill Turner Cup

27 April 2018

It was a sensational day of football for our young U15 Bill Turner Cup girls!

On Thursday, the girls battled for a spot in the semifinals of the Cup. Undefeated in their pool and conceding only one goal for the day, the girls proved themselves as worthy qualifiers and now must wait to learn who they will face in the semi-finals. Congratulations to all players, new and old, who stepped up, dug deep and played in the manner I have come to expect from our football girls.

Good luck with the next round

Equestrian

27 April 2018

On the weekend of 17-18 March the Glennie Equestrian Supporters Team hosted Glennie’s largest Interschool Equestrian qualifying event ever, with 191 entries and 96 riders.

Combined Training, Showjumping and Dressage qualifiers were offered across two days of competition with 16 Glennie riders competing. Congratulations to all students on their achievements in the various classes and parents for working hard to make the two days of competition successful. It was most pleasing to see our new students and younger students demonstrating their skills and having fun.

This event would not have been possible without the support from sponsors and we would like to extend our gratitude, once again, to:

  • Leadburn Lodge
  • Toowoomba Solar Centre
  • Dynavite
  • Hitchley and Harrow

Our silent auction was more successful than anticipated and it really was amusing to see the level of desperation on people’s faces and the lengths some went to in bidding for the item they really wanted. The money raised from this will assist our students in their endeavours. We would like to thank those companies and individuals who donated some unbelievable and highly sought-after prizes:

  • John Todd Photography,
  • Top of Range Training,
  • Hitchley & Harrow,
  • Emcee Products,
  • Wholesale Rug Warehouse,
  • Finch Farms,
  • West Co Trucks,
  • The Humphries, Wise, Higgins, Nolan, Stanford, Bellars, Coggan and Emmerton Glennie families.

The girls will next compete on May 11-13 at the Darling Downs and SouthWest Regional Championships in Dalby so we wish them the best of luck.

Touch Football

20 April 2018

Glennie's own Holly Willmington and School Vice Captain Zoe McLoughlin were selected to attend the Queensland Touch Football Junior Representative Camp on the Sunshine Coast over the first few days of the Easter holidays.

These girls were chosen to play for Junior Titans teams following the Junior State Championships in Townsville in August last year.  This is a new concept aimed at widening the talent pool of junior touch football players in the state. This is the first step on the pathway to the elite level of the game and the ultimate goal of one day being part of the Elite 8 and Open State of Origin Touch Football.

Zoe will also play in the Queensland Touch Football Women's 20s Squad for the 2018 State of Origin Series. The Origin series will be played in Queensland in November. Congratulations Zoe!  What an inspiration and role model for our younger touch players like Holly.

Abby wins again

22 March 2018

With all the swimming Abigail Schoorl has been doing this year, it’s hardly a surprise that she broke a 20 year old record at the recent TSSS Swimming Carnival. The previous 100m Backstroke record was held by Kim Bugden, from Glennie, with a time of 1:08.12, set in 1998. Abby broke the record in a time of 1:07.91. Congratulations Abby on yet another fantastic swimming achievement!

On top of this, after winning four gold medals and a silver medal at the Queensland State Sprint Championships for swimming, Abby was awarded the Country Swimmer of the Meet.

To receive this award swimmers must be a member of a club that is not within the Brisbane, Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast regions. Abby’s performances over the weekend led to her receiving the highest total points out of all country swimmers.  Abby received her award at a competition on Sunday, where she qualified for another two national events.
