Tubular Bells

7 August 2015

This week, the Performing Arts Centre took delivery of a brand new set of tubular bells to add to our percussion section resources at Glennie. Concert Band and Orchestra will be the main beneficiaries of this new instrument. Tubular bells add a lovely "church bell" sound to the ensembles. We look forward to performing in the near future with this beautiful instrument.

Come to Jazzfest

7 August 2015

PASA is very excited about showcasing Glennie’s outstanding musicians at the JazzFest on Sunday, 16 August from 2:00pm to 5:00pm in the Junior Years Courtyard. Featuring the Glennie Jazz Ensemble and Big Band, Junior School Music Teacher, Mr Finlay on trumpet, Janelle Fletcher and the Toowoomba Grammar School R ‘n B Band it is sure to be a great festival of music..

We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our Glennie families and thank our major sponsors Clifford Gouldson Lawyers, Struxi, Avis and Replica Furniture.

We also thank Michael Oo from Two Moos for coordinating the charcuterie platters available for pre-order from GOSS.  The platters will feature wood fire artisan breads from Rose Newberry of Baker’s Duck and traditional smoked and cured meats as well as a triple washed-rind Brie from Sonja and Matt Wentzel of Toni’s Meats.

A raffle on the day will include two designer cushions from Jenni Tomlinson of Lanes Interiors (a Glennie Old girl) and a high bar table, stools, lamp and print from Replica Furniture.

A wonderful group of helpers is working some homemade magic to produce a range of heart-warming soups to purchase on the day.

Families will be treated to a relaxed afternoon of great food, drink and music.

All funds raised from this event will go to purchasing a ‘class set’ of xylophones for the class music programme at the Junior School.

Tickets are available from GOSS.

Put on your dancing shoes, rug up and bring a blanket!

Tune in to ABC Radio next Monday!

Next Monday, 10 August, some members of our Glennie Jazz ensemble will be performing live on ABC radio from 7:00am to promote our upcoming JazzFest performance on 16 August.

Congratulations to all girls who have participated in the Toowoomba Eisteddfod. Many girls braved the stage for the first time to perform pieces they had worked hard on for months. We wish to thank members of PASA who have provided meals for some of our performances over the last week.

Lots of exciting results have been rolling in this week including Glennie’s Concert Band winning the A Grade Concert Band section. The Glennie Youth Jazz Ensemble won and the Youth Orchestra came third in the inaugural Middle Years Ensemble section.

Ballerinas shine

24 July 2015

How lucky were the 32 ballerinas to have warmer weather as they put on their tutus for the Royal Academy of Dance Awards and Examinations last Sunday? After many months of very hard work and holiday rehearsals the girls' exercises and dances were looking beautiful. Congratulations on your fine efforts!

Thank you also to all the parents for their assistance, particularly Karen Ciesiolka and her family, Ann-Louise McKellar, Joanne Crowe, Jane Radford and Sharon Willmington.

African Children's Choir

16 July 2015

In the holidays, members of the Glennie Senior Choir travelled to Brisbane to perform with the visiting African Children Choir at the Powerhouse. In a very energetic two hours, we heard from five other choirs in the first half, and the ACC took to the stage for the second half for over an hour.

Throughout the afternoon, members of the choir and managers told stories of the history of the choir and the amazing background of some of children who, having overcome poverty and loss of close family members are now touring USA and Australia.

The afternoon was also dedicated to the late Mr Harley Mead, with each choir telling the audience their connection and honouring Mr Mead by singing one of his compositions. The Glennie girls sang "River of Dreams" which was dedicated to both the ACC and the School. For this performance, they combined with the African choir and the result was magical.

Thank you to the girls for giving up a day of their holiday and to the staff: Miss Emma Kann, Mrs Wendy Evans and Mrs Sharon Gilbert for travelling with the girls. It was an inspiring afternoon!

Eisteddfod Rehearsals

16 July 2015

Thank you to everyone who gave up time at the end of their holidays to be at Glennie for rehearsals on Monday, 13 July. These rehearsals were most productive and were used to blow off the cobwebs that always manage to appear over the holidays. I encourage all girls to practise daily to try to overcome nerves. Rest is also important during the Eisteddfod.
