What a delight it was to have Melinda Tankard Reist at Glennie this week. Melinda is an Australian author, commentator and advocate with a special interest in issues affecting women and girls. She spoke to students in Years 5 to 9 as well as teachers about the difficult world our girls are navigating. She gave students strategies to combat the relentless media focus on sex and the body, as well as the current online environment that encourages peer surveillance and exhibitionism. How rewarding it was to hear the response from one student at the end of a session – “We can act. We are more powerful than we think!” Bravo!
