20 October 2017
The term has commenced with a flurry of activity with Glennie students enjoying participation in Futsal, Waterpolo, Knowles Cup Tennis, Touch Football and Rugby Sevens. Our All-Schools Hockey team will compete in the three-day Queensland All-Schools Hockey tournament this weekend and we wish these girls the very best of luck.
The weather and renovation of the athletics track are proving somewhat problematic for sport training at the moment and I'd like to acknowledge the girls for their adaptability and patience in the face of last minute changes and cancellations. The track is coming along nicely and will be a fantastic resource for Glennie students moving forward. I'd love to see a few more girls take the opportunity to join our athletics program in 2018, especially in the throwing disciplines.
Glennie had a large number of girls represent Darling Downs at the Queensland Schools Sport Athletics Championships last week. In trying conditions, the girls returned some creditable results and can be proud of their achievements. Charlotte Lindemann and Kate McLennan both made finals. Shona Davidson and Matilda Leicht ran well to qualify for track semis. In field events, Emily Baartz, Anthea Moodie and Jessica Rowe all finished in the top 10 in two separate events, and Taleah McGrane finished in the top 10 in long jump. Well done to Eden Willmington, Chenille Nona-Yellub, Zoe McLoughlin, Molly Martin, Alyssa Baker and Kartia Chin for being chosen to represent the region.
Sports registrations for Term 1 2018 will commence next week. Parents will be sent an email with links to electronic registration forms. I will communicate this to the girls and they will hopefully, have a conversation with their parents about the activities they might like to register for.
Year 11 students have received information on the process for applying to be a Sports Captain for 2018. We have Captains in most of our sports and the girls play a vital role in the promotion and leadership of their sport. There is a procedure that will be followed for selecting sports captains, and this can be found on the Sports Portal page. Captains will be announced after the announcement of the Student Committees later this term.
