This Week in Boarding

21 August 2015

Congratulations to Brown House boarders Karma O'Reilly, Ellie Hughes, Gabby Lawson and Claudia Simon for their recent fundraising efforts for Kids' Cancer. These boarders wrote a book in a day.

The Glennie Boarding Committee ably led by Boarder Captain, Jane Evans and Boarder Vice-Captain, Fiona Murray work hard on behalf of our boarders to organise activities and outings. They are currently  planning a Bingo night combined with a pyjama dinner and an alphabet dinner where family tables dress up as a letter of the alphabet.

We use these theme dinners as a part of our annual fundraising for Bush Ministry, Cancer Research and for a Year 8 Yalari Student in another school.

Bella Chicks, featuring singer, Vita Adams, was well attended by boarders in the Assembly Hall last Friday evening. This was a lively session with a country theme. These evenings were initiated by boarding, but are open to Glennie day girls and girls from other schools at a cost of $3 per person. Boarders are funded. Letitia Shelton from City Women is the organiser of Bella Chicks.

On Saturday afternoon, Mrs Gayle Ash held a craft session in Brown House. The girls who attended enjoyed painting ceramic items for Father's Day.

Miss Kate Powell ran a Reflective Service in the Chapel on Saturday afternoon. These are always calming, positive and meditative experiences.

Mrs Gill  Reynoldson escorted a number of our boarders to the Fairholme/ TGS performance at the Empire Theatre on Saturday night. The show on offer was Titanic the Musical, and this outing was greatly enjoyed.

Mrs Krystal Watson from Brown House escorted a group of boarders to the PCYC Markets on Sunday morning. This outing involved a lengthy walk and the browsing of the market stalls.

On Wednesday evening, after an early dinner, a group of Year 6 and 7 boarders joined Mrs Tess McNab and Mrs Val Lovell in the Art Room to make table decorations for the annual alphabet dinner. Each family table dresses up as a letter of the alphabet and there are prizes for the most imaginative table and the best dressed in each year level.
