Head Lights

devFOMO – the fear of missing out and FONK – the fear of not knowing are, apparently, new ‘conditions’ that drive some young people to constantly check their phones for social media alerts, new emails and texts. Whilst this may be quite concerning for parents, our role is to be active managers of how our children use social media. At its best, its immediacy and broad reach have overthrown corrupt governments, provided a welcome transparency in a sometimes murky world and acted as a positive instrument for social change. Social media won’t be going away, so it is up to us all to ensure our children use it responsibly.
