Pitstop: Outside School Hours Care and Vacation Care

Be cared for

Pitstop is Glennie’s Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) service that caters for school aged children before and after school and during holiday periods.

Pitstop is a place where children can stop, refuel and refresh. The Pitstop Co-ordinator oversees a team of educators who are qualified, and committed to providing a professional service.

Before school, parents can be confident that their daughters are being cared for in a safe and supervised environment as they wait for the school day to begin. After school, in addition to fun, supervised indoor and outdoor activities, girls enjoy some quiet time to wind down after a busy school day. They entertain themselves with crafts, educational computer games, drawing, reading, puzzles and board games. Some girls use this time to complete homework. Our shaded back yard is a place where the girls can enjoy active play or quiet games.

During school holidays there is a Vacation Care program made up of engaging activities for girls and boys to enjoy. These may include excursions to the movies, picnics in the park, museum visits, indoor rock-climbing, ten-pin bowling, farm visits and swimming at The Glennie Aquatic Centre. Indoor activities include cooking, woodwork, gift making, painting and special craft projects.

A new and engaging Vacation Care program is developed in preparation for each school holiday break. Programs are made available in the weeks leading up to the holidays via the School’s online newsletter eNews+.

About Pitstop

Pitstop is located in a converted family home at the east end of The Glennie School on Herries Street. This former residence is the perfect home away from home environment that provides a change from school.

Who can attend?

Before and after school care is offered to Glennie girls from Prep upwards. Vacation Care is offered to girls and boys from any school.

Outside school hours care is governed by the Office of Early Childhood and Care (OECEC). All children must be enrolled in OSHC before using the service. Enrolment forms can be obtained from the School.

Bookings, fees and cancellations

Booking is essential. Fees vary for each service offered. Glennie families are billed to their School account. Extra charges may apply for special excursions or activities during Vacation Care.

Parents must notify Pitstop if their child is unable to attend the service on any given day. Cancellation fees can apply if notice is not given in time. Detailed information can be found on the Pitstop website.

Pitstop is registered with Centrelink allowing parents to receive the Child Care Benefit.

What to wear

For before and after school care, the uniform required for the school day can be worn or children can bring a change of clothes. Vacation Care activities can be harder on clothes and children should be dressed practically and comfortably. Glennie is a sunsmart school and all children are required to wear a hat and sunscreen for outdoor play. For all the details of what to bring, visit the website.

Meals

Pitstop provides afternoon tea daily. This includes fresh fruit and vegetables supplemented with other nutritious snacks. Special diets can be catered for.

During Vacation Care, daily morning tea and lunch are the responsibility of parents unless otherwise stated as part of the Vacation Care Program program. Parents are encouraged to pack nutritious foods in accordance with Pitstop’s policy to promote healthy eating.
