Year 9 Science Astronomy Observation Night

On Tuesday 17 June, Year 9 Science girls had the opportunity to attend an astronomy observation evening on The Glennie School Oval. This was to complement their study of Astronomy in Science this term. Astronomers from the ASTRO Project set up three large telescopes and the School’s telescope was also used to view astronomical objects such as the Moon, Saturn and various stars, nebulae and constellations. A good night was had by all who attended, despite the looming cloud cover!

GOGA Centenary Luncheon - Brisbane

On Tuesday 16 June the Head of School, Mrs Wendy Ashley-Cooper attended the GOGA Centenary Luncheon at the Moreton Club Brisbane.

Year 12 Hospitality

The Year 12 Hospitality group have recently completed the Smart Skills Bar Course over four days at Tomba's Niteclub. This  included the Responsible Service of Alcohol, how to work behind the bar and all the many responsibilities involved when working in a licensed premises.  The training is conducted in a fully operational bar and the drinks poured are simulated to match the colour and consistency of a fully stocked bar.  Not only did the girls gain valuable experience, they also learnt the importance of team work and team building.  The Bar course is a pre-requisite for the completion of the Certificate II (Hospitality Operations).

Year 11 Hospitality

Recently the Year 11 Hospitality students held a High Tea to complete the unit on Cafe Foods and Coffee Shops.  The girls set up the classroom for the High Tea and prepared the menu which included a selection of mini scones with jam and cream, chicken ribbon sandwiches, chocolate butterfly cakes, and mini sausage rolls. They served the High Tea with drip filter coffee and tea of course!

Club G Volleyball

The Toowoomba Club Volleyball finals for Season 1 were held on Tuesday night.  The finals were a culmination of an excellent season for Club G, which had the largest number of teams entered by any school across A, B and C grade.  All teams performed well and represented the School with enthusiasm.  Particular mention must go to the Glennie A grade team, who narrowly missed a place in the Open Women’s A Grand Final in a close four set match.  However, the biggest congratulations must go to Sarah Chisholm, Amanda Hall, Krystle Hartley, Bianca Stewart, Caitlyn Donaldson and Megan Loughnan who were members of the Gold Medal winning team in the C Grade final! Congratulations to all girls involved and many thanks to our outstanding captain, Emma-Kate McGeorge for her continued organisation and support of all 5 teams!
