The Glennie boarding community is home to approximately 195
girls and 25 resident and non resident staff.
Our
girls come from as far afield as The Northern Territory, Torres
Strait Islands and overseas with the majority coming from Western
Queensland and Northern New South Wales.
Three boarding houses
cater for girls from Years 5 to 12. Each student has her
own individual bed and study unit with access to networked
computers,
printers, telephones and common rooms. Each house has a Senior
Resident Supervisor who is responsible for the day to day
routine of the house.
Week days in the boarding school have
a structured
routine within the school day. Weekends, however, are
when girls and staff have the opportunity to participate in
organised and informal activities such as trips to the markets,
movies,
trips away and activities with other schools. The girls
also have use of the recreational facilities of the school.
The indoor heated pool, athletics track and tennis courts
give
girls every opportunity for leisure or fitness. A large
shopping centre close by allows boarding students to attend
to their
banking, hairdressing and shopping needs.
Our
School Health Centre services the day and boarding school,
with three very experienced Registered Nurses on call 24 hours.
A School Doctor holds clinics at the School and a Pharmacy
services the Centre daily.
Being able to give every girl the
opportunity to contribute to our community is very important.
Boarders participate in community service outside the School.
All Year
12 boarders are able to nominate for positions on the boarding
school leadership committees and each year 12 student is responsible
for her "family group". Family groups consist of
girls from each year level, both new and continuing, and are
a means of support as well acquainting themselves with girls
outside of their immediate peer group and year level.
Orientation
for new boarding students begins with new students and their
families being invited to stay in the boarding house for
a night before continuing boarders enter. During this time,
new
students and families will meet the Boarding, Nursing and
Housekeeping staff and will be taken through the daily routine.
The girls
and families will also meet with our Year 12 students and,
the Head of Glennie during dinner that evening.
All students
are encouraged to build relationships with each other and
staff members, to tolerate and respect differences, contribute
to
the life of the boarding community and readily accept their
responsibilities as a boarder.
